A public hearing on the proposed Northumberland County School Board Budget is set for May 8, 2024 at 7 pm at Northumberland County Courts Building, 220 Judicial Place, Heathsville.

This is your chance to weigh in with the Board of Supervisors prior to any motion to approve the School Board budget as presented and the proposed additional $1.75 Million dollars loaded into this year’s request.  Remember, last year’s SB budget was the driving force behind a proposed 23% real estate tax hike which was successfully averted when hundreds of citizens attended the Public Hearing to speak out against additional taxes. This year, we know that property reassessments are coming and will be implemented in 2026…two short years away.   Any real estate tax increases between now and then will be compounded by new (and higher) property values. Even if you choose not to make a statement, your presence at the Public Hearing speaks volumes.
