18 Nov The Budgets are Coming! The Budgets are Coming!
Good news! An important budget step – The school’s Parent and Community survey – is posted. This is your chance to weigh in on what you consider to be the most critical school functions to fund. There is an important message on the school website that discusses how the survey is used and the message contains a direct link to the survey: https://www.nucps.net/o/ncps/page/budget-survey
As you already know, the school budget is developed and appropriated within 5 categories – Instruction, Administration, Operations and Maintenance, Transportation and Technology. In a move toward budget transparency, a 3 year ‘look-back’ on actual expenditures in each category has been posted – including ALL line items – in a spreadsheet format. Downloadable and searchable, feel free to manipulate the data to find answers to your burning questions. Please note that this is a project in process – The Instruction and Technology categories should be completed shortly.
Additionally, expenditures by school are also on the way. The elementary school look back has already been posted and according to the school website, the other schools will be posted soon. Read the finance department message and find the spreadsheet documents here: https://www.nucps.net/o/ncps/page/budget-documents
Save the date: On December 17h the Schools are planning to hold a public hearing on the budget, there is no official public announcement yet but it is on the calendar for that date.
We have uploaded the budget calendar here: https://ncsbwatch.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2026-27-County-budget-timeline-1.pdf
Based on the published data and the other progress being made with school finances, we are optimistic that this year’s budget process will be much smoother and more realistic than in years past. It’s difficult to believe that all this school finance work has been accomplished in less than two months and yet, thankfully, here we are.
